Not to jump on the bandwagon of blogs and articles but we have a problem. What would that problem be? Fear. It dictates our every move. It throws us into an emotional roller coaster where we lose sleep and can’t think straight. It effects everyone differently but the reason why we fear is the same across the board. Now before you stop reading let me explain. By no means am I trying to downplay fear and the different effects it has on us. Im not trying to say some effects are more justified than others. What I am saying is that if we dig deep enough and are honest we will find the reason we fear is the same for everyone.
If you’re like me and have paid any attention to the news recently then you see that the world is being plagued with more than just disease. You don’t have to watch the news or scroll through Twitter long before you start to realize how much power we give fear. We allow fear so much wiggle room it eventually takes over our entire life. See we are so obsessed with finding out the latest update we miss the hope that is right in front of us all because we are looking at our phones; and believe me there is always hope.
Don’t get me wrong it’s good to be informed, it’s good to be aware of what is happening locally and globally but there will always be something to fear in our lives. There will always be something that follows the current fear. Satan has no shortage of them. But God being the gracious, good and loving God He is, has no shortage of hope to give. For every fear that Satan brings to our doorstep God was already there handing out the antidote. The antidote by the way is Himself. It’s Jesus. He gives us Himself. The One that will never let us down. The One that will never abandon us even when everyone else around us has left to fend for themselves. Because God doesn’t sit on His throne in Heaven looking down at you in your chaos He gets up and sits with you in it. If that doesn’t give you a sense of peace and hope in the midst of even the biggest of fears then I don’t know what to tell you.
Fear like many other things is an emotion. Its a strong one I’ll give it that. but its only as strong as we allow it to be. Through Christ and because of Christ we have the power to silence even the biggest of fears. God gives us everything we could possibly need for any circumstance we might come in contact with because He gives us Himself and He is all we need. Are you scared? He supplies hope. Are you tired? He supplies rest. Are you concerned? He supplies peace.
We seem to look for hope in every corner of the globe besides where we can actually find it. We find comfort in the words of men who sometimes don’t know much more than we do but scoff when God says “peace I give to you.” (John 14:27) The world doesn’t need more shipments of paper products and bread. It needs the One that IS the bread. (John 6:35). It needs the One who is bigger than the fear.
Your fears won’t go away with a fully stocked pantry or even with retirement plan. Your fear will go away when you rely on the One who can actually do something about it.
See the effects of fear differ. It causes some to hide and some to panic, but the reason is the same; it’s because we look for hope in things that will fail us. Jesus won’t. So if you are experiencing fear maybe you’re not actually trusting in God, but yourself. Don’t trust your emotions IN your fear trust the God that’s BIGGER than them.
